Family Bunting Project at Haldon Art in the Park Now in its 3rd year, the theme for 'Art in the Park' in Haldon Forest Park on Saturday 14 August 2010 will be based largely around CCANW's exhibition 'Fashion Footprints: Sustainable Approaches'. The exhibition looks at a range of issues around sustainability in the fashion and textiles industry including sourcing materials, production, consumption and disposal of textiles.
Devon Guild Member Bridget Arnold is running the Family Project funded by: Elmgrant Trust and Tesco Communities Charity for Devon Artist Network to make Bunting with families that can then be used for celebrating the Devon Open Studios in September.
Bridget's idea is to create colourful, vibrant Bunting whilst also hoping to give new meaning to her recently departed Mothers Sheets, Shirts and Skirts by adding to them, by stencilling, Printing, Drawing, Painting, Cutting and adding other materials, buttons, embroidery; stitching or whatever takes your fancy. After discovering that 2 million Tonnes of Land Fill is actually Textiles every year, Bridget would like to feel that through 'upcycling' her Mothers garments she will prolong the life of them in some way and help raise the issue about how valuing cherished second hand clothes can carry on the memory of others.
Other Artists are invited to come and take part with their own ideas inspiring families and people of all ages to try out different techniques involved in the production of Textiles, like embellishing, print making, or even painting- come and make your own piece of bunting to be displayed in September.
