Sea Cycled Wave
Artists Gaby Lovatt and Bridget Arnold have worked with groups of young people in Heathfield Community Centre, Bovey Tracey Youth Cafe and during the Contemporary Craft Fair in the Children's Tent.
The inspiration for the project came from discovering that the ingestion of plastic and discarded waste is having a devastating effect on marine life throughout the world. Sea creatures and birds are attracted to the bright colours of plastics, old balloons, carrier bags etc, mistaking it for food or becoming entangled within it.
We have tried to use objects in this project that young people see around them every day: at home, school, and in their youth centre. Plastic bottles and containers filled with other recycled plastics to create marine creature.
